Leahona Rowland of Leahona Rowland Eventing
I originally started riding and eventing at the age of eight in Kelowna BC. I brought my mare Upolu up to the Intermediate/CCI2-L before moving to California where I was a working student for Yves Sauvignon. I moved on to be a working student for Penny Rowland. During that time I competed in my first CCI3-L. I then started to work for Peter Gray and at 18yrs old did my first Advanced with my mare Upolu. After working for Peter I sold my mare to a Young Rider whom I coached on to win individual gold at the NAYC in the CCI2-L and CCI3-L.
From there I brought several horses back up to the Advanced level in eventing, not only in the U.S but the U.K as well. I spent a total of eight years training, competing and coaching in the U.K. During that time I was William Fox-Pitt’s head rider from 2007-2008. I also worked and rode for Mark and Sandy Phillips, Tiny Clapham and Nigel Taylor. While in the U.S. I trained with David O’Connor and trained and rode for Scott Keach and Beth Underhill.
This is the fourth year that I have been the Alberta High performance Coach/Consultant. The past three years I have also been the Alberta Young Rider’s Coach. In 2019 we took an entire team to NAYC at Rebecca farms to compete in the CCI2-L. I also became a certified High Performance 1 Coach.
My goal is to continue to better myself as a coach, mentor and rider. I strive to develop confident, educated riders as well as continue to produce quality event horses. I greatly value opportunities to further my knowledge and experience, and constantly try to find ways to improve myself. I am greatly looking forward to continuing my role as Alberta’s High Performance Coach/Consultant and Young Rider Coach. I am available for coaching/clinics throughout BC and Alberta.
